In an open letter to President Obama, more than 60 American leaders from across the political spectrum asked his administration to back away from a mandate requiring public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms of their choice. Insisting that such a directive amounts to executive overreach and that it could have dire ramifications for the mental health of millions – to say nothing of the physical safety of their peers – the group urged the president to reconsider.
“This controversial and reckless government overreach increases the risk for our children’s safety and privacy in deference to an un-tethered notion of rights,” the letter reads. “This policy rejects the scientific reality of every person’s biological sex. To force all Americans to comply with such an extreme and faulty premise – that every person’s sex is ‘assigned’ to them, rather than simply identified at birth – is beyond the pale.”
The letter was written in response to a directive sent to public school districts across America last month, informing them that by failing to recognize a student’s right to choose their own gender identity, they were in violation of existing civil rights laws. Opponents of the directive have said this interpretation of the law is absurd.
“Someday it will be written in the rise and fall of the United States that the greatest, most powerful country in the history of the world showed symptoms of insanity when it reached the pinnacle of its greatness and success, and this will be one of the symptoms written about,” said Texas Republican Louis Gohmert, one of the letter’s signatories.
Hot on the heels of a huge Supreme Court victory last summer which struck down gay marriage bans as unconstitutional, LGBT activists have turned transgender rights into their newest cause. After years of arguing that there was no “slippery slope,” they have been exposed as the liars they are. First you change the eons-old definition of marriage. Then you find defense of that definition in the Constitution – a defense strangely invisible to anyone other than left-wing activists. Then you actually make it a crime to resist this ridiculous declaration. Once you’ve accomplished those stunning achievements, what can’t you do?
Let’s just put it out there. If liberals can manage to convince Americans that – scientifically – men can be born women and women can be born men, we will be headed down a dark, dangerous path. This isn’t about religion. It’s barely about politics. This is about turning mental illness into a valid lifestyle choice. Strip away the nonsense, and that’s what you have.
The fact that half the country can’t see that is extremely disturbing.
