A leader of the New York chapter of Black Lives Matter appeared on Fox News Wednesday to compare the racial movement to the fight for America’s independence, defend the use of violence to achieve the means of racial equality, and play word games about what he has meant in previous interviews. Hawk Newsome told host Martha MacCallum that BLM activists were willing to take any measures necessary to achieve their nebulous and ever-shifting goals.
“You have said that violence is sometimes necessary in these situations,” noted MacCallum. “What exactly is it that you hope to achieve through violence?”
Rather than answer that direct question, Newsome said, “Wow, it’s interesting that you would pose that question like that, because this country is built upon violence. What was the American Revolution, what’s our diplomacy across the globe? We go in and we blow up countries and we replace their leaders with leaders who we like. So for any American to accuse us of being violent is extremely hypocritical.”
MacCallum calmly reminded Newsome that she was merely repeating what he himself has said about the movement.
“I said if this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it,” Newsome said. “All right? And I could be speaking … figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It’s a matter of interpretation.”
Well, usually in a conversation based on good faith participation, the speaker can illuminate whether they meant something “figuratively” or “literally.” If the goal of a discussion is to spread understanding, the speaker will strive to be as clear as possible about what they mean. If, however, the goal is to spread confusion, chaos, and propaganda, the speaker will…do exactly what Newsome is doing in this interview.
Here is another choice quote from this degenerate: “Nobody’s talking about ambushing police officers. We’re talking about protecting lives. There’s nothing more American than that. We talk about uplifting and upholding the Second Amendment but it seems to be the hypocrisy of America that when black people start talking about arming themselves and defending themselves, [that] talk is ‘violent’. But when white people grab assault rifles and go to our nation’s, their state capitals, it’s all good.”
More disingenuous, intellectually-dishonest argumentation. You literally couldn’t turn around in May without running into an angry liberal screaming about the madness of the anti-lockdown protests. If Newsome is referring to the protest at the Virginia state capitol, well, the same principle applies. Meanwhile, black protesters burn down a city and the media breaks its back to refer to them as “mostly peaceful,” so don’t give us any of this double-standard crap.
Oh, and he also said: “Jesus Christ is the most famous black radical revolutionary in history.”
There was a time when you had to tune into Geraldo or Sally Jessy Raphael to hear from people this unhinged. Now we’re supposed to take them seriously as political activists. Maybe our motto should actually be Make America Smart Again.
