With the selection of Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton has left no doubt about how her administration will approach the subject of illegal immigration. In fact, Kaine himself has cleared up any lingering doubts by saying that Hillary will pursue widespread legalization within the first 100 days of her administration.
And he thinks that Republicans will be more than happy to join her in that mission.
“Paul Ryan and the other leaders of his party are going to understand that if they want a future for their party, they are going to have to work together to find a solution to this,” Kaine said in a Telemundo interview this week.
The Democrats’ view on illegal immigration was on full display on the opening night of the convention in Philadelphia. Illegal immigrant Francisca Ortiz spoke in Spanish along with her 11-year-old daughter, Karla, who is a U.S. citizen by birth.
“I’m scared that at any moment my mom and my dad will be forced to leave,” said the younger Ortiz. “I wonder what if I come home and I find it empty.”
Cue the tears.
Don’t the Democrats have any shame whatsoever? To put a child up on stage, write her some heart-tugging words, and have her act as propaganda for their lawless policies? It’s disgusting.
In fact, the entire “tearing families apart” narrative is disgusting. As though we should weigh lawbreaking against the effects of the proper punishment in a case-by-case basis. Oh, you broke into a convenience store, put a gun in the clerk’s face, and stole $200 from the register? Hmm. Oh, but you have a daughter at home? Right, right. Well, the prescribed punishment is prison time, but we’re going to let you go home. We don’t want to “tear your family apart,” do we?
This is not a sustainable approach to the rule of law. Kate Steinle’s family was torn apart as well. And the same goes for many other families who lost loved ones to illegal immigrant violence, some of whom spoke last week at the Republican National Convention. We don’t owe it to lawbreakers to change laws they find heartbreaking or inconvenient. And any politician who thinks otherwise should be ashamed of themselves.
One of them is running for president. And if Ryan and the other Republicans in the leadership learned anything this year, they will not enable her quest to erase this country’s borders.
