Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, announced Monday that he was referring eight individuals to the Justice Department for prosecution on a wide array of charges relating to the collusion hoax and other, similar matters.
Nunes’s dramatic decision is the first step Republicans have taken towards reversing the tide of the last two years, which has been all about investigating President Trump for any contacts he and his campaign had with Russian officials during the election. Now that the Mueller investigation is finished and the president exonerated of all crimes, Nunes wants to make sure that those people responsible for perpetrating this witch hunt are brought to justice.
While the announcement comes as an abrupt surprise, Nunes told Fox News that he’s had these referrals in the pipeline for a long time. Now that the Mueller investigation is over and Attorney General William Barr is in office, he felt that the time was right.
“We’re prepared this week to notify the attorney general that we’re prepared to send those referrals over,” Nunes said. “First of all, all of these are classified or sensitive. Five of them are what I would call straight up referrals — so just referrals that name someone and name the specific crimes. Those crimes are lying to Congress, misleading Congress, leaking classified information. So five of them are those types.
“There are three that are more complicated,” he continued. “So the question on conspiracy is what they need to look at under that statute. So on the first one, is FISA abuse and other matters we believe there is a conspiracy to lie to the FISA Court, mislead the FISA court by numerous individuals that all need to be investigative and looked at.
“The second conspiracy one is involving manipulation of intelligence,” Nunes said. “That also could involve many Americans, so that’s kind of the second one. As you know, we’ve had a lot of concerns with the way intelligence was used.”
The final referral, Nunes said, would be a “global leak referral” relating to transcripts of President Trump’s international telephone calls in early 2017.
We should learn exactly who Nunes is referring for prosecution by the end of the week, at which time you can expect that all hell will break loose. Obama’s thugs have been scurrying like rats from the moment the Mueller report dropped, of that there can be no doubt. Now the other shoe is about to drop, and anyone who broke the law to spy on Trump’s campaign, mislead the courts, or otherwise perpetrate this hoax on the American people is going to pay for their crimes.
