We’re fairly sure that President Trump could have nominated a straight-laced, middle-of-the-road, judicial conservative and it would have still inspired shrieks of doom from the left, so determined they are to oppose anything and everything this president does. How are we so sure? Well, because that’s exactly what Trump did on Monday night. He picked Brett Kavanaugh to be the next Supreme Court Justice – a completely standard pick that could have easily been made by any other Republican president. As Kavanaugh’s own Yale Law School professor (a self-admitted liberal) said in the New York Times, Democrats should be forced to name two other judges that Trump could have reasonably chosen if they wish to oppose Kavanaugh’s nomination. Good luck with that.
But none of that will keep Democrats from cranking the hysteria up to 11. This is a prime opportunity for them to clang the pots and make a lot of noise in the run-up to the midterm elections. This is their chance to mobilize the #Resistance, get people on the voting rolls, and open up the political donation floodgates. They know they don’t have much chance of actually blocking Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court, but that’s not going to stop them from doing what they do best: Screaming about all the supposed “rights” we’re going to lose with a judge who (gasp!) actually thinks the Constitution means what it says.
Here’s a sample of Democrats insisting that we’re on the cusp of UNPRECEDENTED DOOM.
Chuck Schumer: “With this pick, the president is making good on his pledge to ‘punish’ women for their choices. Judge Kavanaugh got this nomination because he passed this litmus test, not because he’ll be an impartial judge on behalf of all Americans. If he were to be confirmed, women’s reproductive rights would be in the hands of five men on the Supreme Court.”
Good thing Trump picked Kavanaugh and not Amy Coney Barrett, or Schumer would have had to twist a lot harder to get his little identity politics dig in.
Clinton bestie Terry McAuliffe: “The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh will threaten the lives of millions of Americans for decades to come and will morph our Supreme Court into a political arm of the right-wing Republican Party.”
And as we know, the Supreme Court works best only when it is a political arm of the left-wing Democrat Party.
Sen. Cory Booker: “This was the only pick amongst his entire list that has explicitly said that a president should not be a subject of a criminal investigation. It’s almost as if the president said, ‘Let me find the person that’s most going to protect me.’”
First, Kavanaugh has actually written that Congress should impeach a president who is under investigation as a remedy to the situation, so Booker’s hysteria is nonsensical and backwards. Second, considering the idiotic and conspiratorial nature of the Mueller investigation, we should be thankful for any Supreme Court nominee who might put an end to the absurd fever dreams the left has of a post-election coup.
In terms of striking a balance between a solid conservative and an untenable, controversial choice, Trump did about as well as one could possibly do in picking Kavanaugh. He’s perfectly mainstream, his judicial record is unimpeachable, and he will make Democrats look like pure obstructionists if they rally against him. This is a political win for Trump and a MAJOR legal win for conservative America.
Naturally, Democrats are going to be upset.
