The left has been selling the American people a bill of goods about illegal immigration since the early days of the Obama administration, but their zest for lying about this crisis really reached a fever pitch after Donald Trump descended that golden escalator. These days, you can find them assuring us that these illegal aliens streaming across the border are just poor, oppressed refugees seeking asylum in the United States in accordance with their international rights. As good-hearted Americans, we are called upon to accept them, one and all, and process their asylum claims in a respectful and compassionate manner.
It all sounds so warm and fuzzy and kind, doesn’t it? Too bad it’s a load of horse manure.
For one thing, many of these so-called refugees are fleeing from their Central American hometowns not because they are the victims of political or religious persecution, but because they can’t find jobs in the old neighborhood. That is not a valid claim to American asylum.
Two, these refugees have an obligation to apply for asylum in the first safe country they arrive at – under no circumstances is that country the United States.
And three, how can we process these claims…when these asylum-seekers never show up to court?
“In testimony before Congress this month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials said that the agency had recently conducted a pilot program with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to test how many recent illegal aliens would show up to their asylum hearings after being released into the U.S.,” reports Breitbart.
“The results, an ICE official told Congress, were that about 87 percent of illegal aliens, or almost 9-in-10, recently released by DHS into the U.S. did not show up to their asylum hearings. With illegal aliens not showing up to their scheduled hearings, the ICE official said, the agency is then forced to grapple with attempting to locate and deport each illegal alien, an almost impossible task that strains federal resources.”
This study undermines everything Democrats have said about the crisis at the border. We have 2020 candidates out there right now saying that we need to let every one of these “refugees” into our country. Can you even imagine what that would do to our economy over the course of the next twenty years? What it would do to our culture? What kind of impact it would have on the very fabric of this nation?
We are under zero obligation to self-destruct on behalf of people who can’t get it together in their own countries. And any politician calling on us to do so is deeply and unforgivably un-American.
