NY Times: We Need Abortion Because Pregnancy is a “Life-Threatening Condition”

The rhetoric on the left surrounding abortion has become twisted and obscene, but even in this environment, the New York Times managed to find someone who could bring the left’s evil arguments to a new level. Warren Hern published an opinion piece on Tuesday with the remarkably loathsome headline: “Pregnancy Kills. Abortion Saves Lives.” And for anyone who could bear to keep reading after that dark statement of barren philosophy, the piece only got crazier.

Pointlessly, since every state-level abortion ban that has passed in the last month makes exceptions for the life of the mother, Hern starts off by explaining how many complications can occur during pregnancy that threaten the mother’s health. He then transitions into making a racial argument for the importance of abortion.

“In Alabama, the overall maternal mortality ratio in 2018 was 11.9 per 100,000. Among white women, the 2018 maternal mortality ratio was 5.6; among black women, it was 27.6, making black women in Alabama almost five times more likely to die as a result of pregnancy than white women. For the United States overall, the maternal mortality ratio was 20.7,” he writes.

Perhaps, he argues, it’s better to let the mother kill the baby before the baby can strike first.

“A study in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology on abortion mortality from 1998 to 2010 found that for the 16.1 million abortions performed during that time, the overall death rate was 0.7 per 100,000 procedures. The death rate for early-abortion procedures — those that took place within the first eight weeks of the pregnancy — was less: 0.3 per 100,000,” he writes.

In other words, abortion is safer than pregnancy.

You know, unless you count the millions of unborn babies who were killed during that time period.

It’s pretty extraordinary, in the era of Black Lives Matter, that none of that organization’s representatives has ever taken a close look at the way black mothers are targeted by the abortion industry. If they did, they might be surprised at what they found. Because while there are no statistics that show black men are killed disproportionately by police officers, the holocaust of unborn black babies is practically keeping Planned Parenthood in business.

Saving lives? How dare you, New York Times.
