Speaking to Fox News after a week that saw Star Wars actress Gina Carano and “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison fall under the sword of the woke mob, lawyer Alan Dershowitz said that he would step up to defend any American being persecuted for holding unpopular opinions.
“Cancel culture is quickly becoming American culture,” he said in an interview with Maria Bartiromo.
Dershowitz said that he remembered well the era of McCarthyism in Washington and Hollywood. The lawyer said that while he “hated communism” as much as any red-blooded American, he proudly stood up for lawyers who chose to defend accused communists. Dershowitz said that he would provide his legal services for free to do the same thing now.
Dershowitz said he grew up during the era of McCarthyism and although he “hated communism,” he said he still defended the rights of lawyers to defend accused communists. Today, Dershowitz is promising to do the same free of charge.
“If any lawyer is the subject of this kind of McCarthyism, I will represent you pro bono,” he said. “I will represent you in front of universities, in front of bar associations. I’m going to dedicate myself to making sure that the new McCarthyism of the hard left doesn’t become American culture.”
Also on the program was Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who concurred with Dershowitz about the dangers of corporate censorship.
“On the day we had the impeachment vote on the house floor, I told my Democrat colleagues, I said, the cancel culture won’t just stop with Republicans. It will come after all of us in the end,” he said. “And that’s why we all have to push back.
“If we don’t push back on this and stop it and stand up, as Mr. Dershowitz said, stand up for the Constitution and the First Amendment, it will only get worse,” he continued. “This is the No. 1 issue for the country to address today.”
It is nearly unbelievable that there are still liberals willing to say there’s no such thing as cancel culture. Or better yet, they’ll say things like, “Hey, just be a decent human being, and you won’t have to worry about being canceled.”
But, you know, when we see a guy like Harrison, whose only point was that maybe the social media mob shouldn’t tear a young girl’s life apart because she attended a party at an old plantation when she was 18, forced to “step aside” and give an overwrought apology to “BIPOC” people…you’re really going to tell us that HE’S the one failing to be a “decent human being?” Him, and not the crazed woke warriors on Twitter?
Cancel culture is all too real, and it has NOTHING to do with cleaning up racism. It is about exerting leftist power, and that’s all it’s about.
