Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said a lot of disturbing stuff since emerging onto the scene with her upset victory in New York, but we’re not sure she’s ever said anything quite as galling as she did this past week. Riding high after the election of Joe Biden, AOC suggested that any American who worked in the Trump administration, helped the president over the last four years, or (perhaps) even voted for him should be shunned from society and blacklisted from the workforce.
“Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future?” she asked on Twitter. “I foresee decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future.”
Responding eagerly to her call, a spokesman for a group calling themselves the Trump Accountability Project wrote, “You better believe it. We just launched the Trump Accountability Project to make sure anyone who took a paycheck to help Trump undermine America is held responsible for what they did.”
On their website, the TAP says this: “Those who took a paycheck from the Trump Administration should not profit from their efforts to tear our democracy apart. The world should never forget those who, when faced with a decision, chose to put their money, their time, and their reputations behind separating children from their families, encouraging racism and anti-Semitism, and negligently causing the unnecessary loss of life and economic devastation from our country’s failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Unsurprisingly, this un-American project has attracted plenty of criticism.
“The ‘Trump Accountability Project’ is deeply concerning. This kicks up the brownshirt-type activity up a notch. Kristallnacht soon,” wrote Larry Sanger. “This is totally incompatible with democracy. If a politician’s team committed crimes, arrest ’em. If not, leave ’em alone.”
Sen. Marsha Blackburn said, “Liberal operatives have sent up test balloons on the creation of official enemies lists.”
Former Bush strategist Karl Rover said that AOC and the Trump Accountability Project were flirting with “fascism.”
“I think it is unacceptable in this country that political differences can be dealt with in such a way,” Rove said. “Imagine what would happen if a Tea Party activist had said people who served in the Obama administration, there will be consequences for those hiring them. The media would be outraged, we ought to be outraged at this. This is un-American.”
We couldn’t put it any better. For all their talk about “threats to democracy,” these leftist loons are the ones bringing us closer, every day, to a fascist state. If Biden really wants to unite the country, he needs to start by making it clear that he doesn’t stand with these people.
We’re not optimistic.
