Upon learning that Joe Biden was going to choose a woman to be his running mate – and quite possibly a woman of color – a group of Democratic feminist operatives sent out a memo to the mainstream media: This is how you can – and can’t – talk about the woman who runs for vice-president. This group, which was strangely absent from the scene when Sarah Palin was running alongside John McCain, is undoubtedly preparing to send out a refresher in the wake of Biden’s actual pick: Sen. Kamala Harris.
“Our country — and your newsrooms — have learned a lot since the [death of George Floyd] and the subsequent protests for racial equality that his death spurred … We know from public reporting that many of your newsrooms had internal conversations about your coverage, your diversity and your editorial judgments,” the memo reads.
“A woman VP candidate, and possibly a Black or Brown woman candidate, requires the same kind of internal consideration about systemic inequality as you undertook earlier this year,” the activists continued. “We are here to help you with this challenge. We intend to collectively and individually monitor coverage and we will call out those we believe take our country backwards with sexist and/or racist coverage. As we enter another historic moment, we will be watching you.”
We’re sure that the New York Times, set to spend the next three months raking Harris over the coals, will now rethink their coverage based on this thinly-veiled threat from progressives. Sometimes you have to wonder where these idiots come from. Where do they live? What media are they even talking about? The one that hasn’t uttered a breath of criticism of any black Democrat in years? The one that is too busy covering for Biden’s basement-dwelling campaign to investigate Tara Reade’s claims? They’re worried about THAT media covering Harris in a racist/sexist manner?
Well, lest us be convicted by this watchdog wing of the Democratic Party, we’ll make sure to keep our criticism of Harris above board. Because there’s plenty there to criticize without getting into her gender or her skin color.
There’s her vow to violate the Second Amendment with an assault weapons ban.
There were her attempts, as California’s attorney general, to lock up the parents of truant kids.
There was her reprehensible attacks on U.S. District Court nominee Brian Buescher for daring to belong to the Catholic Knights of Columbus because they “opposed a woman’s right to choose.” You know, like the Catholic Church as a whole.
There is her stated preference for decriminalizing illegal immigration and her plan to offer health care to all such border-jumpers.
This is a moderately-young woman who, given Biden’s age and mental decline, stands a significant chance of assuming the presidency if her ticket wins in November. Those are the stakes.
Don’t tell us how to vet this woman. Americans deserve to know everything.
