In an interview with New York radio host John Catsimatidis this weekend, former Clinton campaign adviser Dick Morris predicted that, thanks to a mail-in-voting deluge, Americans should prepare themselves for a mess on election day and beyond. Morris said he wouldn’t be surprised if the election itself winds up being decided by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
Morris cast his eyes forward to the election, envisioning a scenario in which Trump wins in a landslide – or appears to – on November 4. However, he said, that would still give Democrats days or weeks to start counting up mail-in ballots, potentially changing the results of the vote to reflect a Joe Biden victory.
Seeing this scenario for what it is, Catsimatidis asked Morris if a situation like that could lead to outright civil war.
“Well, there certainly will be major conflict. I hope there won’t be civil war and it’s serious enough that I don’t take your question metaphorically,” Morris said.
Morris then described in detail the situation he foresees in November.
“The blue state governors are mailing out tens of millions of ballots, and they’re going to be returned with a vote on them, probably for Biden,” Morris continued. “And those people will not go to the polls to vote on Election Day. So what you’re probably looking at is that you’re going to have on election night a report that Trump carried all of the potential swing states.
“And they’ll say that Trump has 330-350 electoral votes and won a landslide,” Morris continued. “And then, day after day, week after week, you’re going to find another million ballots counted here, another half-million there, another quarter of a million in another place. And gradually, these Democratic liberal secretaries of state who are in charge of the election in most of these blue states will say, ‘Oh, well, we’re sorry. It turns out Biden carried Wisconsin, not Trump.’”
Morris surmised that this would then trigger a lawsuit from the Trump campaign that will work its way through the state courts, into the federal judiciary, and ultimately end up at the nation’s highest court.
“The U.S. Supreme Court eventually will make the decision. And then the entire election will be in the hands literally of John Roberts. And we’ll see what he’ll do,” Morris said.
This has all the hallmarks of a slow-motion disaster in progress. You think we’re divided now? Just wait until half the country believes one guy is the president and the other half says the other guy is the rightfully-elected leader. We could see ugliness the likes of which hasn’t been seen in this country since the days of Lincoln. Let’s pray it doesn’t come to that.
