In an interview at a tech conference in California this week, Hillary Clinton suggested the unthinkable: If Democrats want to win Washington back from the Republican Party, they – hold onto your hats – might have to start lying! Can you imagine? A Democrat lying to the American people just to win an election?? Surely Hillary Clinton had her tongue planted firmly in her cheek even to imply such a bold political strategy!
Clinton found her way around to this advice while complaining (again) about the endless series of outside factors – none of which were her fault, or fair – that cost her the 2016 election. Among these factors, Trump’s “enormous investment in falsehoods, fake news…call it what you will.”
In other words, anything that didn’t line up exactly with what was being reported by The New York Times and CNN. Of course, at another point in the interview she also blasted the Times for reporting on her email scandal “like it was the bombing of Pearl Harbor,” so we guess her idea of fake news is literally anything that doesn’t portray her in the most glowing of lights.
“The other side was using content that was just flat-out false and delivering it in a very personalized way, both above the radar screen and below,” Clinton said.
She assured the hosts that her campaign did not “engage in false content.”
“We may have tried to put every piece of information in the best possible light and explanations, but we weren’t in the same category as the other side,” she said.
Uh-huh. So here we have Hillary Clinton…HILLARY CLINTON…claiming that she did not lie on the campaign trail! We won’t even get into the many lies that came from the House of Clinton, because we’re still recovering from an election that seemed to take ten years to reach a conclusion.
When the host jokingly suggested that Hillary might have done better if she’d rethought her “Honest Abe” strategy, she said, “I’m not rethinking it, but everybody else better rethink it, because we have to figure out how to combat this.”
Combat what? Lying in politics? Honey, your husband took it to a brand new level twenty years ago. And you carried on the tradition in fine form when you threw your hat into the ring last year.
We won’t pretend that every word out of Donald Trump’s mouth is pure gospel, but don’t sit there on your ivory throne and act like you ran a clean campaign.
