The left-wing corporate media was incensed on Monday when U.S. Attorney John Durham spoiled all the fun they were having in using the Inspector General’s report to trash President Trump and all of his supporters as liars and conspiracy theorists. Durham, who is conducting his own investigation into the origins of the FBI’s probe into the Trump campaign, released a statement shortly after the report hit Congress. In it, he said that he had significant disagreements with IG Michael Horowitz’s conclusion that the FBI was free from “political bias.”
“Based on the evidence collected to date, and while our investigation is ongoing, last month we advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the report’s conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened,” Durham said.
“I have the utmost respect for the mission of the Office of Inspector General and the comprehensive work that went into the report prepared by Mr. Horowitz and his staff,” Durham continued. “However, our investigation is not limited to developing information from within component parts of the Justice Department. Our investigation has included developing information from other persons and entities, both in the U.S. and outside of the U.S.”
An unbiased media would have presented Durham’s statement with the gravitas it deserves, and they would have used it to explain to their viewers that while the Inspector General’s report was an important piece of the puzzle, it was not the final word on the Trump campaign investigation.
Instead, we got stuff like this from CNN’s Jake Tapper: “It is surprising that he would do that, Mr. Durham, considering the fact that he’s not refuting it with any facts. He’s just saying he disagrees. He could’ve just kept his mouth shut and then when his report comes out, we’ll see what he has.”
Try to remember the last time Tapper suggested that Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, or any other Democrat in Washington should have kept their mouths shut. Tip: Don’t hold your breath while you think.
MSNBC commentator Frank Figliuzzi was similarly put-off by Durham’s pushback.
“I find it hard to understand how a prosecutor in the middle of his investigation would decide to make an announcement that he doesn’t like somebody else’s conclusions and that he might be going in a different direction,” said Figliuzzi. “There’s really no operational or investigative purpose for that. It leads me to think, and I’d be very disappointed if this is the case, that there’s a political reason for this, and I have to wonder, personally, whether we’re seeing Attorney General Barr speak through the office of John Durham.”
We would bet all the money in the world that if Horowitz had found significant wrongdoing and Durham had released a statement to push back on that, Tapper and the rest of the media Democrats would be praising him as a true patriot. But as usual, any official who even vaguely comes to the defense of President Trump is cast aside as a sycophantic, unprofessional Nazi who should be buried underneath the jail.
TDS is a hell of a disease.
