Like Biden, Kamala Harris Refuses to Say Whether Court-Packing is on the Table

It’s not often that you see a presidential campaign so clearly ashamed of their own intentions. But that’s definitely the case with the Biden/Harris ticket, because they’ve been given multiple chances to say clearly whether or not they plan to add additional justices to the Supreme Court…and they just won’t do it. They are terrified to anger the far left by committing to keeping the court at nine, and they are terrified to turn off moderate voters by promising to pack the court. That leaves them in a no-man’s-land where their only answers to this simple question are filled with evasions and non sequiturs.

At the debate on Wednesday, Harris was asked – clearly and without confusion – whether or not she and Biden are going to tilt the Supreme Court back to the left by expanding it for the first time since the 1800s.

“You’ve refused to answer the question, Joe Biden has refused to answer the question, so I think the American people would really like to know,” said Vice President Mike Pence. “If Judge Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed to the Supreme Court of the United States, are you and Joe Biden, if somehow you win this election, going to pack the Supreme Court to get your way?”

Harris answered the question by…going on about Abraham Lincoln’s decision to not nominate a Supreme Court justice in the months leading up to an election.

“You once again gave a non-answer,” Pence said. “Joe Biden gave a non-answer. The American people deserve a straight answer, and if you haven’t figured it out yet, the straight answer is, they are going to pack the Supreme Court if they somehow win this election.”

Now facing an outright accusation from the vice president, Harris was once again given an opportunity to give a straight answer. Instead of doing so, she accused Trump of picking “purely ideological” judicial nominees before veering off into a tangent about race.

“Do you know that of the 50 people who President Trump appointed to the Court of Appeals for lifetime appointments, not one is black. This is what they’ve been doing. You wanna talk about packing a court? Let’s have that discussion,” said Harris.

Pence got the last word: “I just want the record to reflect she never answered the question.”

But, in a way, she did.
