Faced with a deranged House leadership that is looking to invalidate the results of the 2016 election with wild charges that don’t come anywhere close to the level of impeachment, Republicans are realizing they have no choice but to fight fire with fire. They have not only the Democrats to worry about but also their allies in the mainstream media. Slowly but surely, this onslaught is shifting the pulse of the American public; several new polls show support for impeachment growing within shouting distance of 50%.
None of this will make a difference, legally-speaking. As long as Mitch McConnell and the majority of Republicans in the Senate recognize this nonsense for what it is, impeachment will die in the House of Representatives and Trump will see his presidency through the last day of his first term (at least). But the fight for public opinion is another matter. At the end of the day, this is not about expelling Trump from office, which Democrats know they have no shot at doing. This is about winning the 2020 election. And that’s why it’s imperative on Republicans to get out there and make the best fight possible.
Rep. Ralph Abraham (R-LA) is doing his part. On Tuesday, the Louisiana lawmaker introduced a resolution to expel House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from Congress.
“Nancy Pelosi’s vicious crusade against our lawfully-elected President is nothing more than a politically-motivated witch hunt and it must be stopped,” Abraham said. “She has disgraced the people’s House and weaponized the Speaker’s gavel for her party’s political gain.
“House Democrats spent nearly three years obsessed with election meddling only to dwarf any such efforts with their own deceitful plan to nullify the 2016 election and prevent President Trump from winning in 2020,” he continued. “I have introduced a resolution calling for her to be expelled from the House and for the Speaker’s Office to be vacated.”
There is very little chance that Abraham’s resolution will gain traction, and there is pretty much no chance that it will actually be successful in driving Pelosi from office. Nonetheless, it is important to have resolutions like this on the record. The American people – those who don’t solely get their news information from Democrat rags like the Washington Post – need to understand what this really is. They need to understand that Democrats are so incensed by this president that they are willing to subvert democracy to oust him from office.
This is a dangerous road the Democrats are traveling. We need Republicans who are willing to put up as many obstacles as possible.
