#RefundWarren Trends as Bernie Sanders Fans Strike Back

#RefundWarren was one of the top-trending hashtags on Twitter on Tuesday as hundreds of users posted screenshots in which they asked for a refund from ActBlue, the donation website that funnels money to Democratic political candidates. The posts are being propagated by former supporters of Elizabeth Warren who are now turning on her because of a statement she made about Bernie Sanders. In a race in which the two candidates were supposedly committed to a non-aggression pact, it seems the wheels have come off the Friend Bus.

On Monday, Warren released the following statement about a conversation she’d had with Sanders prior to getting into the 2020 race:

“Bernie and I met for more than two hours in December 2018 to discuss the 2020 election, our past work together and our shared goals: beating Donald Trump, taking back our government from the wealthy and well-connected, and building an economy that works for everyone,” Warren wrote. “Among the topics that came up was what would happen if Democrats nominated a female candidate. I thought a woman could win; he disagreed.”

This may seem like a reasonable disagreement about where the American electorate is in 2020, but of course to be caught saying anything like that these days is the height of sexism. And in WokeLand USA, you can’t be accused of sexism and continue to run a viable campaign for the Democratic nomination.

Unfortunately for Warren, her statement was read as an unforgivable attack across the leftist bow, and she is taking a thorough lashing on social media for the transgression.

“Act Blue is literally at max capacity from people asking for refunds of their Warren donations…on the eve of the last debate before Iowa,” one user tweeted. “She was already in deep trouble, but the desperate & disgusting lying & smearing was unexpected. Karma works fast sometimes.”

“Elizabeth Warren’s plan to get attention is going exceedingly well. No one will forget the first negative donation day in history. Brilliant move,” snarked another.

“Senator Warren, I am a Bernie supporter and have strongly advocated for you with my fellow Bernie volunteers and in my club,” wrote a third. “I am deeply disappointed in your statement today. You could have set this aside and gotten back to the issues. I’m requesting a #RefundWarren.”

In a statement to CNN, Sanders denied ever saying that a woman couldn’t win the presidency.

“It is ludicrous to believe that at the same meeting where Elizabeth Warren told me she was going to run for president, I would tell her that a woman couldn’t win,” Sanders said. “It’s sad that, three weeks before the Iowa caucus and a year after that private conversation, staff who weren’t in the room are lying about what happened. What I did say that night was that Donald Trump is a sexist, a racist and a liar who would weaponize whatever he could. Do I believe a woman can win in 2020? Of course! After all, Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump by 3 million votes in 2016.”

Well, you knew that these two would eventually get nasty – this is politics, after all, and there can be only one winner. Now it’s time to see which one of them can marshal the radical socialists to their corner. Should be fun to watch.

We’re sure Joe Biden is loving every minute of it.
