Rep. Ilham Omar (D-MN) remains one of the greatest examples of why the U.S. should start limiting the number of refugees we take from third-world Muslim countries like Somalia. Omar may not be a terrorist or anything like that, but her rise to power in the U.S. government is an unfortunate black mark on our democracy. Everything out of her mouth is piercingly anti-American, thoroughly in opposition to this country’s values, and, well, just plain dumb.
While the rest of the country is focused on uniting in the face of a common enemy – the coronavirus – the first Muslim woman elected to the U.S. Congress still thinks this is a time for taking unnecessary shots at President Trump and his family. Such was the case this week when she decided to slam Ivanka Trump for a harmless post about her family.
On Twitter, Ivanka encouraged families to make the most of social distancing and reduced work hours by making a “living room camp out” with sandwiches, treats, and games.
“A fun activity that also brings family together for a meal,” wrote Ivanka.
The First Daughter encouraged her followers to come up with their own ideas for family togetherness during the crisis.
“It won’t mitigate the fear and pain,” she acknowledged, “but it may foster some joy. Let’s come together as a community and share ideas on how to entertain our children (and each other) and create some positive memories in an otherwise frightening moment.”
Imagine looking at that wholesome tweet and finding a reason to bitch about it. You would have to be one miserable individual to do that.
“Thinking of all the families separated forcefully by your father’s policies today,” Omar sniped in response to Ivanka’s tweet. “Share your ideas on how you plan to unite them.”
Omar’s tweet was met with a deluge of criticism, some of it extremely biting, but we thought this one said it best: “Why do you need to be so hateful? Ivanka shared a simple family suggestion and you had to be spiteful and mean. Not something a true leader would do. Awful. I’m praying for this country to heal in all ways. You should try it.”
That pretty much covers it…buuuut, if we wanted to go a step further, we might mention that this is probably the WORST possible time for open-borders advocates like Omar to be crawling out of their peanut galleries. The insanely-rapid spread of COVID-19 throughout the world is one of the most powerful arguments against our globalized society that we’ve ever seen, and it is certainly not an argument for mass, unrestrained immigration.
If there is a single silver lining to this crisis, it is that people are going to see quite clearly that Trump was right all along: We are either a nation with borders or we aren’t a nation at all.
