Still on her whirlwind Tour of Idiotic Comments, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez confirmed to The New Yorker’s David Remnick this week that she was not only in favor of abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but also the agency under which ICE operates.
“Would you get rid of Homeland Security, too?” Remnick asked AOC.
“I think so,” she said. “I think we need to undo a lot of the egregious mistakes that the Bush administration did. I feel like it is a very qualified and supported position, at least in terms of evidence and in terms of being able to make the argument that we never should have created DHS, in the early 2000s.”
Ocasio-Cortez explained that her views were “supported” by what she saw when she toured immigrant detention facilities at the border.
“It was the physical manifestation of Trump’s rhetoric and calling migrants animals,” she said. “Because that’s how these women were being treated – their hair was falling out, they had sores in their mouths due to the lack of nutrition. The cruelty is the point.”
Just to slip in a fact-check for the 300th time on this point: President Trump was referring only the members of the murderous MS-13 gang when he used the term “animals.” Democrats should really get a handle on a little thing called context before they go spouting off at the mouth.
But then, they wouldn’t be Democrats, and they certainly wouldn’t manifest in the persona of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Thankfully, there are still some sane people in Washington. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) said that AOC’s remarks about the Department of Homeland Security were nothing short of “ridiculous.” Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) said that Ocasio-Cortez was irresponsible for even suggesting the abolition of the agency.
But no one shot back harder than Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), who wondered on Fox News at the increasingly radical direction of the Democratic Party.
“I just don’t know how extreme you can keep going,” Biggs said. “I mean to eliminate the whole department of Homeland Security seems so outrageous to me, and don’t forget: She doesn’t want any internal enforcement for ICE. DHS has done a – for better or worse – has done a pretty doggone good job quelling terrorist attacks in this country as it was supposed to do, and it’s trying to enforce the laws. I don’t know where she’s coming from actually, really can’t conceive of it.”
We’re pretty sure that understanding the garbage that comes out of her mouth is one of the official signs of early-onset dementia, so Biggs shouldn’t be too concerned.
