In a tweet on Saturday, President Donald Trump lowered the boom on “unhinged” Democrats who have been defending Qassem Soleimani and the Iranian regime for the sole purpose of attacking him.
“Where have the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats gone when they have spent the last 3 days defending the life of Qassem Soleimani, one of the worst terrorists in history and the father of the roadside bomb? He was also looking to do big future damage! Dems are ‘unhinged,'” he tweeted.
We don’t love the way Trump phrased this, only because it gives Democrats some breathing room to come back and say, “Oh no, look at all the times we specifically said that Soleimani was a bad person” and then accuse Trump of lying. Even the dimmest dimwit can see that Democrats only included those little disclaimers so they couldn’t be accused of defending a terrorist, but they did nonetheless include them. That doesn’t permit them the benefit of the doubt, by any stretch, but it does give them a rhetorical argument.
Far less defensible are the Democrats and liberal media pundits who blamed Trump for Iran’s downing of a Ukrainian commercial jet on Wednesday night. Now that was truly “unhinged.” And everyone from Pete Buttigieg to Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) should be called to account for their disgusting words. It grates on our nerves when people throw the big “T” word around incautiously, but quite a few liberals are guilty of at least presenting “comfort” to our enemy, if not specifically aid.
All of this to say that Trump has the Democrats right where he wants them, so it’s not necessary to go over the top in condemning them. They are doing quite a nice job of tying the noose themselves. Don’t step in and get in their way. If they want to campaign this year on a platform of impeaching a president who committed no crime, dramatically altering an economy that hasn’t been this good…ever, and defending Iran’s regime of international terrorism, well, all we can say is: Good luck with that!
Politics aside, these Democrats really ought to be ashamed of themselves. The protests in Iran over the weekend have shown us that the Islamic regime is weaker and more vulnerable than it has been in decades. Why would any patriotic American lawmaker use this opportunity to bash Trump and make the U.S. appear divided? The same lawmakers, incidentally, who constantly accuse Putin of trying to weaken the United States!
Who needs Russia when you have Democrats?
