Trump Ready to Take Immigration Effort “To The Next Level”

In an interview with The Daily Caller this week, White House senior adviser Stephen Miller said that President Donald Trump was preparing a series of executive actions that would dramatically increase immigration enforcement within the already-existent framework of the law. Appearing to acknowledge that many of the forthcoming actions would be unpopular on the left, Miller suggested that the purpose for the rollout was to put additional pressure on Congress to change the laws so that the border crisis can be stopped.

“There’s going to be an aggressive effort to utilize every existing authority in statute,” Miller said. “We’re systematically reviewing all authorities that are already on the books, both in terms of cracking down on illegal immigration and the abuse of our legal immigration system.”

Miller said that the president was deeply concerned about illegal aliens living inside the United States with removal orders having already been placed against them. This, he said, was an example of one area where the White House could up the ante by using an existing law that permits assessing a “significant financial penalty” against illegal immigrants who do not report for deportation.

“This law has been on the books for a very long time and has not been utilized,” he told The Daily Caller. “That’s the example of the kind of legal authority that already exists that is the kind of thing we can deploy to restore integrity to the immigration system.”

Miller said that the renewed enforcement would “dramatically raise the pressure on Congress and, in particular, the congressional Democrats.”

Well, it sounds like tough talk, but that’s essentially what we’ve been hearing for the last two years. That’s not a swipe against Trump, but merely a fact to point out whenever anyone starts talking about increasing pressure on the Democrats. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have decided that their best bet is to take a hostile approach to this administration and any efforts they make towards enforcing the law. They don’t want a wall, they don’t want to cut down on visa abuse, and they refuse to admit there is any such thing as a crisis on the border. All they’re willing to do is obstruct and demand that Republicans legalize the Dreamers. Oh, and spout propaganda about “kids in cages.”

Until the American public says loud and clear that they want Congress to secure the border and keep our country from becoming overrun by a third-world invasion, the Democrats are just going to keep on keeping on. We applaud Trump’s willingness to do whatever he can do in his executive authority, but until Congress gets serious about this problem, the crisis will continue.
