Sometimes it’s nice to get a little sense of perspective when it comes to the left’s mindless hatred of President Donald Trump. Watching the news over the last month or so, you might be forgiven for starting to believe that Trump’s detractors are seriously concerned about the president’s phone call with the Ukrainian president. You might start to think that Democrats are acting in good faith – they didn’t want to impeach the guy, but what else can they do in the face of this evidence? They at least have to talk about the possibility, right?
But then you remember they’ve been talking about impeachment since before Trump was even elected. You recall that they thought Trump was some kind of covert Russian spy working on behalf of Putin’s global interests. And then, even if you can’t remember every phony outrage the left turned into a spectacle over the last three years (+), you get a helpful reminder of just how psychotic these people have become.
On Wednesday, President Trump retweeted a harmless Photoshop of him awarding the Medal of Honor to the hero dog, Conan, who was injured in the raid on Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s compound in Syria. It was just Trump having a little bit of fun while simultaneously giving some rare credit to our loyal canine heroes who so rarely get any. It wasn’t worth getting mad about. And it certainly wasn’t worth doing any reporting about.
That is, unless you’re suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Steve Herman of Voice of America kicked off the journalistic concern over the photo.
“I’ve requested details from the @WhiteHouse on this photo,” Herman tweeted about the (obviously) Photoshopped picture. “There was no such canine event on today’s @POTUS schedule but there is a Medal of Honor ceremony set here for later today for an active duty Green Beret.”
Okay, so Herman is an idiot. Surely he’s an outlier in the grand scheme–
“The image, which bears a watermark for a social media account for the conservative news site The Daily Wire, appeared to be an altered version of a 2017 Associated Press photograph,” reported The New York Times in a rushed story. “In the original, Mr. Trump is seen awarding a Medal of Honor to James C. McCloughan, a retired Army medic who is credited with saving the lives of 10 men during the war in Vietnam.”
Notice the little tweak they give Trump there at the end, as if there’s something monstrous about replacing McCloughan in the photo with a dog. They might have gotten some juice out of that angle if it weren’t for McCloughan himself, who assured reporters later that he’d laughed at the picture and had not been offended in the least.
McCloughan, unlike the idiots in the press and on Twitter, is apparently free of insanity.
The Huffington Post got in on the outrage as well, tweeting: “Fine, just the president of the United States disseminating a doctored image created by a right-wing propaganda site.”
Not sure the Huffington Post has any room to throw “propaganda site” stones at The Daily Wire, but hey.
So yeah. Next time you get snowed into thinking that the left is – if not justified, at least understandable in their anger about the Ukraine thing, just remember that they get equally upset about Photoshops honoring military canines.
These people are not well.
