In an interview with the Washington Post on Tuesday, President Trump seemed to acknowledge the reality he was facing on Capitol Hill. Even though Republicans will have the majority until January, there is little hope that Democrats will budge from their position against the border wall, even if it means coming off an amount as small as $5 billion for our national security. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is being raked over the coals by liberals for even suggesting that $1.6 billion can be earmarked for the border; it’s nearly impossible to imagine Democrats funding anything more, shutdown or no shutdown.
“We need Democrat votes to have a wall,” Trump said. “Now, if we don’t get it, will I get it done another way? I might get it done another way. There are other potential ways that I can do it. You saw what we did with the military, just coming in with the barbed wire and the fencing, and various other things.”
Over the past few weeks, military troops have helped construct more than 12 miles of razor wire along the border near the San Ysidro crossing. This, of course, is where migrants tried to violently storm the border on Sunday, only to be repelled by tear gas canisters. The liberal media has done everything it can to turn those images into another “humanitarian catastrophe” for the administration, but Trump believes that the situation reflects poorly on the Democrats.
“We desperately need a wall,” he said. “I think that’s been shown better than ever in the last short period of two weeks — that we need a wall. I see the Democrats are going to want to do something, because they understand, too. Those pictures are very bad for the Democrats.”
On a normal day in a normal year, we’d agree with him on that, but you never can tell with the country the way it is these days. People are brainwashed on social media to believe that Trump is the second coming of Hitler and that illegal immigrants will be fodder for the modern Holocaust. Hell, a soon-to-be-sworn-in U.S. congressperson just said it outright. That’s the state of things, so we’ll be surprised if Democrats feel any particular pressure whatsoever to secure the border. They’ve got their constituents in the palm of their hands. To the point where an unruly mob of foreigners can hurl dangerous objects at U.S. officials…and the nation’s sympathy GOES TO THE FOREIGNERS!
Every day that passes, we feel like we need that wall more than ever. Except maybe we need to build it in-country a little ways and drop Democrats on the other side.
