Patrisse Cullors is one of the three women who co-founded the Black Lives Matter organization in 2013, and she is arguably the most outspoken of them. A self-proclaimed “trained Marxist” who does not shy away from admitting that the goal of BLM is to upend society, destroy capitalism, and usher in a new age of socialism for the United States, Cullors is being rewarded for her activism with a new TV deal with Warner Bros.
“Building on her political activism, the Los Angeles native plans to work with the studio to develop scripted dramas and comedies, docuseries and animated programming for children, young adults and families,” reports the Los Angeles Times.
“Black voices, especially Black voices who have been historically marginalized, are important and integral to today’s storytelling,” Cullors said in a statement. “Our perspective and amplification is necessary and vital to helping shape a new narrative for our families and communities. As a longtime community organizer and social justice activist, I believe that my work behind the camera will be an extension of the work I’ve been doing for the last twenty years. I look forward to amplifying the talent and voices of other Black creatives through my work.”
While you would think that Cullors’ success would at least be celebrated by her likeminded activists, not every social justice warrior was happy about the news.
“Somebody needs to hear this: Black liberation isn’t brought to you by AT&T, sponsored by Wells Fargo, or managed by Roc Nation. And it certainly doesn’t come with a Warner Bros. Television deal, or a shoe from Nike. Y’all be safe out there,” someone wrote on Twitter in a post retweeted by sports journalist Jason Whitlock.
In a 2015 interview, Cullors was asked about a perceived lack of ideological direction for the Black Lives Matter movement, to which she answered: “We actually do have an ideological frame. Myself and Alicia [Garza], in particular, are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists. We are super versed on, sort of, ideological theories.”
Now those ideological theories will be heard by a wider audience through the propaganda machine that only Hollywood can provide. Can’t wait until children are subjected to the “Marxist” theories that Cullors has been trained on through cartoons. That will certainly do wonders when it comes to uniting this country, moving past our racial troubles, and putting the nation back on firm ground.
Sigh, what are we doing to ourselves?
